Terms of Use for Scrib Notes

1. Agreement to Terms

By downloading, accessing, or using Scrib Notes (“the app”), available on the Apple App Store, you agree to these Terms of Use—the rules for how you may use the app—and our Privacy Policy, which explains how information is handled when you use the app. Before you can use the app, Scrib Notes may ask you to confirm that agreement on your device; that confirmation is stored only on your device, not on a Scrib Notes server. If you do not agree, do not download or use the app.

2. Privacy Policy

How Scrib Notes handles information is described in the Privacy Policy available in Settings and on the Scrib Notes website. Together, these documents explain what stays on your device, what (if anything) is sent to third parties when you choose optional features, and how you can delete your data.

3. The Service

Scrib Notes is a personal productivity app that runs on your iPhone. Core features include:

• Scribs: free-form notes you can organize into named groups, reorder, and mark done.
• Reminders: timed alerts with an optional earlier secondary reminder, scheduled on your device.
• Feed: items you share into Scrib Notes from other apps, plus optional AI-generated news digests.
• Done: a history of completed scribs, finished reminders, and feed items you mark as read, with undo where available.
• Settings: tab visibility, main launch screen, article reader page theme, feed interests, AI provider/model and API keys, statistics, Rate Scrib Notes, feedback, and data-deletion tools.

4. Who May Use Scrib Notes

You may use Scrib Notes only if you are 13 years of age or older and are not barred from using the app under applicable law, including the laws of the State of New York, United States, and any other jurisdiction that applies to you.

5. Your Content and Responsibility

You retain ownership of the text and other content you create or share into Scrib Notes. You are responsible for that content and for how you use the app, including any reminders you schedule and any material you send to third-party AI providers when you use AI Generate. Do not use Scrib Notes to store information you are not comfortable keeping on your device or, when using AI Generate, sharing with your chosen AI provider.

6. Local Storage and No Scrib Notes Cloud Account

Scrib Notes does not require a Scrib Notes account and does not operate a Scrib Notes cloud sync or backup service for your notes, reminders, feed, or settings. Your content is stored on your device (and, for the Feed share extension and offline article cache, in an App Group container on that device). You are responsible for backing up your device. We are not responsible for data loss caused by device failure, reset, sale, theft, deleting the app, or using Clear App Data.

7. Reminders and Notifications

Reminders use Apple’s UserNotifications framework to schedule alerts locally on your device. By using Reminders, you consent to on-device storage of reminder text and times, and to iOS prompts asking for notification permission. Secondary (earlier) reminders also schedule a separate local notification. If you enable “Remind me until done,” Scrib Notes may schedule repeating local notifications until you mark the reminder done. We do not send push notifications from a Scrib Notes server. Notification delivery depends on your device settings, power state, and iOS; we do not guarantee that every reminder will fire exactly when expected.

8. Feed, Sharing, and Article Reading

You may add items to your Feed by sharing text or links from other apps into Scrib Notes. Opening a shared link may cause your device to fetch that page and related images from the third-party website so Scrib Notes can show an offline-friendly reader. You can choose an article reader page theme (such as white, sepia, gray, or black) in Settings. Opening the original link or in-reader links may leave the app and open Safari or another system browser. Those websites are governed by their own terms and privacy policies—not Scrib Notes’.

9. Optional AI Generate

AI Generate is optional and runs only when you tap the AI Generate control. To use it you must supply your own API key for Anthropic (Claude) or OpenAI (ChatGPT) and choose interests or custom topics. When you generate, Scrib Notes sends a prompt based on the template in Settings (which you may customize) that may include your selected interests, custom topics, and limited recent Feed titles or URLs to the provider and model you selected. That provider may use web-search tools on its systems to gather current news. Your notes, groups, and reminders are not included in that prompt. Generated articles may show an estimated API cost in Sources based on reported token and search usage; your provider’s bill is authoritative. Use of Anthropic or OpenAI is subject to their terms and privacy policies, and you are responsible for complying with them and for any costs billed by those providers to your API account.

10. User Conduct

You agree not to:

• Copy, distribute, or disclose the app (other than your own content) without permission, except as allowed by law.
• Use automated systems such as bots or scrapers to access the app in a way that harms its operation.
• Interfere with or disrupt the app.
• Reverse engineer or attempt to extract source code except where permitted by law.
• Use the app for any unlawful purpose, including submitting unlawful content to third-party AI services through AI Generate.

11. Intellectual Property

The app’s design, branding, and software (excluding your content) are owned by the developer and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. These Terms do not transfer ownership of the app to you—only a limited license to use Scrib Notes on Apple devices according to the App Store rules and these Terms.

12. Third-Party Services

Scrib Notes may interact with Apple services (App Store—including optional in-app rating prompts via StoreKit—UserNotifications, and Safari/system browsers), websites you share into the Feed, Google Forms when you voluntarily submit feedback, and—only if you choose AI Generate—Anthropic or OpenAI. We do not control those services and are not responsible for their availability, accuracy, content, or privacy practices.

13. Changes to Terms or the App

We may update these Terms or change the app’s features. Updated Terms will show a new “Last Updated” date in Settings and on the Scrib Notes website. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised Terms. If you do not agree, stop using the app and delete it.

14. Disclaimer of Warranties

Scrib Notes is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. Without limiting that disclaimer, we do not warrant that date parsing, reminders, notifications, Feed extraction, article rendering, or AI-generated digests will be accurate, complete, timely, or uninterrupted.

15. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, data, goodwill, or opportunity, arising from your use of the app, inability to use the app, reliance on reminders or AI output, or third-party services. Our total liability for any claim relating to the app will not exceed the amount you paid (if any) to download Scrib Notes, or zero if the app was free.

16. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, United States, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules.

17. Support and Feedback

You may report bugs or request features using our feedback form (hosted by Google Forms). Submissions are voluntary. Do not include passwords, API keys, or other secrets in feedback.
